What you need to know
Kim Kardashian is speaking out about the scrutiny her daughter has received over her recent self-expression.
On the latest episode of Chloe in Wonderland, the SKIMS founder, 45, spoke to her sister and host Khloe Kardashian about her parenting style. During the conversation, she also addressed some of the criticism she received for allowing her 12-year-old daughter, North, to wear certain clothing, have fake facial piercings, tattoos, and skin piercings.
“I’m not that critical of a person, so I try not to pay attention to it,” she began. “But I don’t think anyone would know what I’m dealing with and how we have to manage certain things that we have to go through together in the outside world and even in our lives unless they’re in my shoes.”
The mother of four shared one big misconception she believes everyone has when it comes to her relationship with her daughter North.
“I think one of the misconceptions that people might have is, ‘Oh, she lets her do a lot of things in an attempt to be her best friend.'” No, Northie actually has a lot of rules.[That’s]one area where I’m letting her express herself,” Kim explained. “I love her for that, and she’ll do it regardless.”
Kim added that colorful hair and fake earrings are nothing new to her daughter.
“It’s funny because people are like, ‘Oh, this blue hair, all of a sudden it’s like this,’ and the fake earrings that she’s wearing. I have pictures of her when we were in first grade[and kindergarten]and she’s got like a fake septum ring, and she’s got green braids, and she’s got pink braids. But she’s loved having colored braids in her hair since she was little,” she continued.
“Just like she is who she really is and has always been that girl,” she continued. “So I’ll raise her.”

In addition to North, Kim is also a mother to sons Psalm, 6, and Saint, 10, and daughter Chicago, 8. She has a child with ex-husband Kanye West. Back in October, the doting mother spoke out about her daughter’s appearance after footage of North with fake facial tattoos, a nose ring and grills sparked outrage.
Daily Mail Australia captioned the TikTok video: “North West, 12, has fans worried with his new look.” One person responded: “What if she’s a kid,” another chimed in, “She’s 12 by the way,” and a third wrote: “This is just sad.”
A joint TikTok account between Kim and North Korea responded to the backlash in the comments section of the video, writing, “This is not a problem at all 😭.”
Kardashian appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Oct. 15 and spoke again about North’s fashion choices.
“She’s very mature in a way and says, ‘Mom, I saw this. I don’t care that you don’t like my blue hair or this or that,'” Kardashian said, adding, “She’s really confident…”
