Kim Kardashian has admitted that she once used her longtime friend Britney Spears to help her strive for fame around the early 2000s.
During a recent appearance on Chloe in Wonderland, the SKIMS founder recalled that she was having dinner in New York City with her friend Jonathan Cheban when the latter learned that Spears was staying at a nearby hotel.
“All I wanted was (fame),” she said. “That’s what I lived for.”
Ms Kardashian, now 45, explained how someone she was dining with was driving a Phantom Rolls-Royce when she and Mr Cheban, now 51, “could barely get a taxi.”
“And I was like, ‘Oh, can you give me a ride to the hotel?'” she continued, adding that the man agreed.
Strategically, Cheban suggested that he and the reality star sit in the back seat, making it appear as if they were being escorted by a driver.
Kardashian recalled arriving at the hotel and seeing “paparazzi waiting for Britney everywhere.”
“They come out and they’re like, ‘Kim, Kim, are you here to see Britney?’ And Jonathan’s like, ‘Keep your head down and shut up,'” she said.
“So we go in and we get into a phone booth because we’re like, ‘We don’t know anyone at this hotel. We don’t even know if there’s a hotel bar that we can get into.'”
The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star told how she and Cheban remained in a phone booth for about 20 minutes before deciding on a time to leave.
She recalled enraging the paparazzi on her way out, asking, “Kim, how was Britney?”
“We…got in a taxi, I think from that point on, because the Rolls-Royce guy dropped us off, but[the dads]didn’t want to take any pictures of us getting in, so we totally cheated the system.”
“And it was on every cover and we thought we were killing it,” Kardashian added.
Spears, now 44, and Kardashian first met in the early 2000s through mutual friend Paris Hilton.
The two appear to have maintained a friendship and even hosted a cozy sleepover last November.
