Kim Harvey will direct CBS Evening News as the next executive producer. This is a switch that could repeat new changes to the venerable program after losing viewers while trying out unorthodox forms.
“Kim brings a keen news sense and a great track record of producing from across the broadcast and cable network. She is a respected newsroom leader, and her relationship with on-air talent, producers and reporters run deep.” “Her career on ‘CBS Evening News’ makes her an ideal candidate and we are delighted to continue working with her in introducing our extraordinary reporting and storytelling every night. ”
She is the second woman to lead a long-term show, following Patricia Shevlin, who led the three-year “Evening News” that began in 2011 before moving on to “60 Minutes.”
Harvey will replace Guy Campanile, a veteran “60 minutes” producer, tasked with overhauling “evening news” in two anchor formats, and tasked with focusing on enterprise reports that promoted the prominent audience’s exit from the program. Campanile was no longer with Breezier on NBC and ABC, and CBS News, which they wanted to offer alternatives to the more highly rated evening news broadcasts. The campanile returned to his old stomping ground.
“CBS Evening News” is one of the most famous products from the Paramount Skydance owned network, and has a storied history that reaches Dan, rather than Walter Cronkite. The current version of the show will help bring more spotlight to reporters around the world and bring it all together. Even surface before a commercial break, please look forward to viewers’ future stories. Many stories include CBS news reporters who come from spots from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri or around the world, rather than the worn-out perch in front of the White House or the US Capitol.
With Harvey’s arrival, executives appear to be poised to experiment with the current format. This relies on John Dickerson and Maurice Dubois delivering news side by side.
Those familiar with the issue suggest that viewers will rely more frequently on one of the anchors on the road at large events in a few weeks. Last week, Dickerson was on the ground in Alaska, Alaska, as he met to discuss US President Donald Trump’s ongoing battle with Ukraine. Using both anchors in this way, when authority figures were placed in the field and studio, this person gave the newscast the ability to provide broken news at the top of the broadcast.
Harvey joined CBS News in 2017 and has worked for Evening News during his tenure. She works as a producer, senior producer and senior broadcast producer, and has worked with almost every CBS News National Cresserment, in addition to anchors such as Norah O’Donnell and Jeff Glor. She also spent 16 years editing and producing on leading cable news networks. She helped launch “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC and also worked with host Chris Hayes.
Harvey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Ithaca University.
“It’s a great honor to entrust this role after nearly a decade of working in ‘Evening News’, which began as a producer,” Harvey said in a statement. “I have great respect and admiration for the people who piloted this broadcast in front of me. I am grateful for Tom and the team for the support they have. I look forward to leading our incredible group of journalists each night, introducing our audience to the latest news, original reports and memorable stories.”
