Kiefer Sutherland allegedly threatened to “kill” a rideshare driver after he refused to stop and get him out of his vehicle.
The actor was arrested on January 12 after an altercation with a rideshare driver in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Page Six on Tuesday.
According to TMZ, the incident began when the Uber driver stopped and refused to let Sutherland out of the car.
The 59-year-old actor called an Uber Negro to take him home after dinner with friends, but wanted the driver to stop and let him off at some point during the ride, the newspaper reported.
Sutherland told police he asked twice but the driver refused, the report said.
The driver claimed Sutherland threatened to kill him and assaulted him with his hands before calling 911, the newspaper reported.
Sutherland and the driver may have had trouble understanding each other, a law enforcement source told TMZ, as the driver requested an interpreter to speak with LAPD.
Representatives for Sutherland did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment. The Los Angeles Police Department had no further comment on the new report.
The Los Angeles Police Department previously confirmed to Page Six that officers responded to a call early Monday morning regarding an alleged assault involving a rideshare driver near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood.
The Los Angeles Police Department later identified the suspect as Sutherland, who claimed that he “entered the rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats against the victim.”
Officers arrested Sutherland on suspicion of criminal intimidation.
The Los Angeles Police Department noted that the alleged victim did not have any injuries that required treatment at the scene.
Records obtained by Page Six confirm that the “24” star was arrested on Monday and his bail was set at $50,000.
He was released at 11:30 pm local time on the same day and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2.
