Kevin Federline is detailing what happened in the “weird” moment before ex-wife Britney Spears infamously shaved her head in 2007.
In his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, the former backup dancer claims that after Spears was released from rehab, he “showed up at the gate, rang the bell, and yelled a bunch of gibberish.”
“The only thing that came through clearly was, ‘Let. me. in.’ Over and over and over again,” Federline, 47, recalled. news.
“Then she started climbing up the main gate,” he added. “I stayed inside with the kids and tried to calm things down. I couldn’t bear to see her like that.”
Spears was “not in a condition to be around children,” so security turned her away, police said.
“It was the right thing to do,” he says. “I couldn’t let her see them. They wouldn’t understand why their mother was looking and acting strange. And I didn’t want to scare them.”
K-Fed also has two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, who were 2 and 1 years old at the time, living with Spears.
After the “Toxic” singer wouldn’t let her into the house, she went to a local salon where she asked the stylist to shave her head.
“When a stunned stylist turned her down, Britney took matters into her own hands, picked up electric clippers and shaved her head herself,” Federline continued on this viral moment. “Eventually, she drove down the street to a gas station.
“Then things escalated into the infamous ‘umbrella incident’ where she grabbed an umbrella and started swinging it at the paparazzi. They were having a field day. Photos of that moment were all over the place, including her shaved head and wild eyes.”
He also recalled that it was “just the energy” Spears displayed outside her home in Tarzana, California.
“I looked at those pictures later and thought, this is what I was dealing with,” he concludes.
Spears and Federline married in 2004 and had two children during their marriage, but were in the midst of a divorce just two years later.
In her 2023 memoir, The Woman In Me, the Circus songstress revealed why she shaved her head, saying:
“Since I was a teenager, I have been looked down upon and told what people think about my body,” she wrote. “Shaving my head and acting were ways of resistance for me.”
The Princess of Pop also said that in addition to her ongoing divorce and being estranged from her children, she has been experiencing bouts of postpartum depression.
In 2008, she was placed under a strict conservatorship led by her father, Jamie Spears, and had no say in her daily life. (The conservatorship ended in 2021.)
“It made me understand that those days are over,” she said. “I had to grow my hair out and get back in shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medications I was prescribed.”
Federline’s memoir is scheduled to be published on October 21st, and a rep for Spears told Page Six that “publicity about Kevin’s book means that he and others are once again profiting off of her, and sadly this is after her child support relationship ends.”
“All she cares about is her children Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being in this sensational endeavor. She details her journey so far in her memoir.”
Spears, 43, herself criticized the memoir in an Instagram post, writing, “The constant gaslighting from my ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting.”
“I have always begged and cried for my sons to live with me. Relationships with teenage boys are complicated. I have been depressed by this situation and have always begged and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”
She went on to claim that her sons have “constantly witnessed my father’s lack of respect for me,” claiming that “one son” has only seen her “for 45 minutes in the past year” and another son has only seen her “four times in the past five years.”
“I’m proud too,” the songstress wrote. “From now on, I’ll let them know when I’m free. Believe me, the white lies in that book, they’ll go to the bank right away, and the only one who’s really hurt here is me.”
“In fact, I’m a very intelligent woman who has spent the past five years trying to live a sacred and private life. I speak about this because I’ve been through enough, and any real woman would do the same.”
Apart from the neck-shaving incident, Ms. Federline reflected in her memoir why her sons are allegedly afraid of the singer and why she thinks she is hurtling toward a tragic end.
She also detailed the time Spears allegedly cheated on her with a female backup dancer and the time she was spotted talking to ex Justin Timberlake before their wedding.
