Oscar-winning actress Kevin Costner, “outraged” by recent revelations in The Hollywood Reporter, has gone deep-sea diving in search of sunken treasure and hit movies, sources tell Page Six.
“Kevin Costner is obsessed with deep-sea diving to discover sunken treasure,” a source told Page Six this week about the “Yellowstone” star.
The source added, “He recently found gold coins and emeralds in the Caribbean. He is currently purchasing a TV series about finding sunken treasures around the world.”
But “no one has signed up for funding,” he said, citing the star’s ruthless attitude on the streets.
The THR article claimed that Mr. Costner’s career was marked by “a series of unfortunate events” that were “marked by feuds, strikes, lawsuits, fundraising debacles, and a growing reputation for being, in the words of a former colleague, ‘impossible.'”
Our source said Tuesday of Costner, “He’s said to be enraged by a new article in The Hollywood Reporter about how he lost the plot…very angry about it.”
According to THR, Costner has struggled to raise money for his planned four-part “Horizon” series of over-the-top westerns, even mortgaging a vacant $60 million property on the Santa Barbara County waterfront to raise funds.
Perhaps the underwater loot could help pay for the movie. (Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 failed in its theatrical release in 2024, and Horizon 2 currently has no release date set. Costner is reportedly seeking funding for Parts 3 and 4.)
Costner has a background in ocean exploration, and online posts say he previously said he planned to team up with underwater archaeologist Alex Mirabal (whom the movie star met while exploring a Portuguese shipwreck in Mozambique) and start an exploration business together.
According to reports, the pair visited the Castillo de la Real Fuerza Museum in Havana, Cuba, in March, where they toured a maritime archive containing artifacts from shipwrecks from the late 19th century.
THR also reported that Costner, 70, and Yellowstone co-star Wes Bentley got into a heated argument that left another star, Kelly Reilly, in tears.
Costner, who starred as John Dutton in the western series, was filming a tense scene with on-screen children Bentley and Riley on a soundstage in Utah at the time of the alleged altercation.
Sources also said that some cast members were fed up with Costner’s “diva-like” behavior on the show’s set.
A representative for Bentley confirmed the incident, but only said it was a “work-related altercation during a mentally and physically demanding situation” and added that the matter had been “discussed and resolved.” A representative for Costner, whose character was killed off at the beginning of the fifth season last season, declined to comment.
A representative for Mr. Costner did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Costner starred as a Coast Guard rescue swimmer in the 2006 film Guardians and also produced the infamous underwater fiasco Waterworld.
