Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell team up again for a horror-comedy film that takes on iconic monsters.
Thompson and Mitchell will star in and produce the film Keenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein. The announcement was made on Amazon’s sports talk show Good Sports, where Thompson normally co-hosts with Kevin Hart, but Mitchell was filling in as a guest host. You can watch the entire clip below.
The film is scheduled to begin production this summer. According to the official logline, the story “takes a horrifying turn when two delivery drivers arrive at a creepy, out-of-place castle and accidentally awaken Frankenstein’s monster, turning an ordinary night into a fight for survival.”
However, this isn’t the first horror comedy that Thompson and Mitchell have worked together on. They also appeared in the Nickelodeon TV movie Two Heads Are Better Than None, which aired as the finale film for their beloved sitcom Keenan & Kel.
“Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and the completely unexpected,” Thompson said. “We’re excited for people to enjoy this new take on the classic monster story.”
“It’s always natural to work together again. This allows us to take advantage of everything people love about our dynamic while trying something completely new,” Mitchell added. “It’s fun, scary and a great ride.”
This marks the comedy duo’s first announced joint project since reuniting for “Good Burger 2” in 2023. At the time, they teased that they would continue to collaborate. Thompson and Mitchell first met when they were both cast members on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series “All That,” on which “Good Burger” was based. In addition to the success of the first film, the duo worked together for four seasons on “Keenan & Kel.”
Jonah Feingold (At Midnight, 31 Candles) will write the script for the new film. Thompson and John Ryan Jr.’s Artist for Artists will co-produce with Range Media Partners. Ryan Jr., Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Carter Swan will produce alongside Thompson and Mitchell, with Will Harriton, Azim Spicer and Monica Weber serving as executive producers.
“First it was Abbott and Costello, then Pryor and Wilder. Keenan and Kell,” Ryan Jr. said. “Think of it as Shaun of the Dead meets Scooby-Doo.”
Range Media will be in charge of sales led by Brian Kavanaugh Jones and Pete Miceli. Thompson and Ryan Jr. are repped by Range Media Partners. Thompson is repped by Innovative Artists Entertainment, Untitled Entertainment, and attorney Mark Temple.
