Early in her career, chart-topping country singer, and Elle’s May digital cover star had a long-term relationship with Australian musician Morgan Evans. Morgan Evans
Ballerini began dating Morgan Evans in early 2016 after co-hosting the Australian Country Music Channel Awards. When they hung out at an afterparty that night, there was an instant connection.
“He was saying, ‘Let’s take a shot,'” Ballerini remembered people. “I remember taking that shot, putting it down and seeing him like, ‘Oh… he’s so hot.’ Later that night, he leaned down and asked if he could kiss me like a proper gentleman, and I said yes. ”
The pair made their red carpet debut in November 2016 at the Country Music Association Awards. The following month they got engaged. Ballerini shared the news in a Christmas Day post, saying, “I can marry an Australian. My heart explodes from loving this man so much. I am the lucky girl in the world.”
They married on December 2, 2017 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and the following year they released their duet “Dance With Me.” In 2021, Barrelnini told people that they were able to spend time together during the pandemic and had also had couples therapy. “We approach our relationship very differently, but he shows up. He shows up in any way necessary,” she added.
However, the pair split after Ballerini filed for divorce in August 2022. The following year, she called her dad and appeared, and she said that the “sense of amputation” ultimately led to her breakup. “I was really honest. I said, ‘I admire you and I respect me because I loved what this brought to my life, so I can no longer participate in this marriage,” Ballerini explained on the podcast.
On Valentine’s Day 2023, she dropped her surprise EP and rolled up her welcome mat. “I remember saying, ‘Oh, I’m scared,'” Ballerini recalled to Elle in May 2025. But it definitely felt horrible. ”
Chase Stokes
Ballerini and Chase Stokes were first romantically linked in January 2023. Cole Her Daddy, the “Loader” singer said she slipped into Stokes’ DM and quickly began flirting. That March, Stokes confirmed that the two were dating at today’s show.
Over the next few months, they shared romance snippets on social media, including beach trips and visits to Ballerini’s hometown in Knoxville, Tennessee. They also made their red carpet debut as a couple at the CMT Music Awards in April 2023.
Three months later, Ballerini opened up about their courtship, saying, “He’s also a Virgo. We’re both Labrador retrievers in human form. We don’t need much conversation to be on the same page. It’s six months and it’s great.”
They turned their heads in May 2024 with their Met Gala debut, “Garden of Time.” Ballerini wore a Michael Kors gown covered in pastel flower appliques, while Stokes was shirtless under an open sequin tuxedo styled with a layered necklace. Later that year they spent Thanksgiving with Ballerini’s family.
Their relationship seemed to have grown stronger throughout most of 2025. On September 13th, Stokes paid tribute to Ballerini on his 32nd birthday. “You keep saying you’re not excited about 32, but I think I’m looking forward to this even more. Happy birthday my love ❤️,” he captioned the carousel in the photo with the duo.
But two days later, Ballerini’s rep confirmed with people that the former couple had broken up. “They are two adults who gave it all and tried to do everything they could to make it work, but in the end they couldn’t. That didn’t happen,” the source told the outlet. Neither Ballerini nor Stokes commented on the split.
