Katseye may have still found their sweetest collaboration.
A viral moment that plunged the internet into frenzy after making waves with Gap’s global campaign set in Kelis’ iconic 2003 Smash “Milkshake” – group members Manon and Sophia say they’re revealing a full-sache link-up with the “boss” singer.
“I feel it’s coming,” Manon teased in a joint interview with Sofia, promoting their Invisalign partnership.
“She’s supportive online and that feels really good, so she knows.”
Born at age 22 a few months before “Milkshake” first dropped, Sofia says she already has a nostalgic connection to the track, thanks to her “Mean Girls” and her pop culture location.
“When they told us it was a song, we were like, ‘We’re going to eat it,'” she recalled with a laugh. “It’s a really fun song, and many of us know that from “Mean Girls.” I remember thinking, “This song will come up later (the gap campaign).” And that feels very pleasant.
Katseye’s “Milkshake” recipe for Gap was not whipped overnight. Sofia reveals that choreographer Robbie Blue will work tirelessly with the dancers to complete the movement before the girls step into the rehearsal.
“He was just making this magic,” she gushed out. “Even during the rehearsals, the choreography was constantly changing. He decided to find the perfect one for all of this. It was fascinating.”
The massive three-day shoot felt “like one consecutive day” thanks to the time spent in the same custom gap outfit designed solely with ads. And don’t expect them to look like they’re going anywhere other than their own closet.
“It’s in my room, in my closet. You haven’t gotten it back from me!” Sofia says when asked if performers could consider donating their ensemble to the museum.
“I’m not giving up on that,” Manon adds 23.
The pair was also covered on the floor due to the scale of production.
“I think this might be the biggest set we’ve ever done,” Manon says.
“We got a full princess street, the gap team made us feel comfortable and didn’t feel like work. It just felt like a dream came true.”
Manon and Sofia’s personal styles are clearly different. All six members can embrace their individuality in a place where fashion is at the forefront of Katzie, from the gap campaign to eye-catching music videos and the look of the head touring red carpet.
“You give it like a rich and elegant royalty,” Manon tells Sofia, explaining the sensitivity of her bandmate’s outfits.
“She gives me such a model-off duty,” Sofia rebuts, celebrating Manon’s casual approach to style herself.
“She pulls it up to the sweatpants and tank top functionality, but you can’t even understand that.
For Manon, mixing things with “occasionally miniskirts” keeps her fashion fresh.
“Sometimes I like to spice it a little,” explains the singer.
That confidence extends to their megawatt smiles – now they say the duo was a game-changer thanks to their partnership with Invisalign.
“Invisalign is the easiest way to get straight teeth,” Manon says. “I had big head braces when I was a kid… so I straighten them without anyone knowing that having invisalign is a blessing.”
Sofia reflects that sentiment and calls it “very convenient.”
“I kept my first aligner. Every time I get a new set, I compare it to the last one. I see the changes. It’s very effective and easy to fit into a busy schedule.”
Details about the six styles.
Their viral gap campaign is just the latest milestone in Katzie’s explosive rise, following Netflix’s “Pop Star Academy,” which documented the formation of the group.
Since then, they have won big victories: Lollapalooza, the first ever MTV Video Music Awards, booking for the coveted Coachella next year, and the announcement of their debut headlining tour – all highlighting a string of hits such as “Touch”, “Gunary”, and Gabriella.
“I can’t give you one (highlight),” Manon recalls. “There’s been so much. It feels like we’ve been doing this for 10 years.”
Sofia still can’t believe in herself. “We were just at VMAS. We’re playing at Coachella. We were at Lollapalooza. We’re going on tour. Coachella! Are you kidding? That’s insane,” she says.
“I said, ‘Wait, why is our name there?”
There is a potential collaboration between Kelis on Horizon, under the viral campaign, and there will be a World Tour ahead, but one thing is for sure. Katseye is just beginning.
