Kate Middleton and Prince William played the role of royal hosts as they officially welcomed President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to the UK for a state visit with King Charles.
The 43-year-old prince and Princess of Wales were the first royal members to greet the President, 79, and the First Lady, 55, at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, September 17th. The royal couple then met King, 76, Queen Camilla (78).
After resigning as a Marine, President Trump greeted Prince William with a handshake and a slap on the shoulder before turning to Princess Welsh. Waving her hand he said to Kate: “You are beautiful, so beautiful.”
On this occasion, Kate completed the look with a brooch that once belonged to Princess Diana, wearing a Maroon Emilia Wicksted dress paired with a Jane Taylor hat.
Since joining King Charles’s throne in 2022, Prince William and Princess Kate have been regularly welcoming foreign guests to visit. As heir to the throne, William often assumes important hosting duties on behalf of her father, and Princess Kate is usually by her husband’s side.

King Charles invited Trump for his second visit to the UK in a letter given to the president by British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer in February. The formal invitation for a national visit – signed by the King himself and known as “Manugia” – was handed over to the White House in June by British officials in Washington, DC.
A palace aide said at the time, “his under his has known President Trump for many years and is looking forward to hosting him and First Lady later this year.”

Trump’s second official state visit is unprecedented for the US president. He previously visited the late Queen Elizabeth in 2019 during his first term.

President Trump’s visit to the UK will include a state banquet on Wednesday night and a Thursday meeting with British Prime Minister Kiel Kiel, the Buckinghamshire country home checker.

Additionally, Melania will join Princess Kate for her first joint engagement on Thursday, visiting Frogmore Garden in Windsor. There, they join members of the UK’s Chief Scout Dwaynefield and Scout Squirrel program.
Kate, a brownie as a child, has been co-president of the Scouts Association since 2020.
