Julia Fox describes bloody Jackie Kennedy Halloween costume and claims it is a ‘statement’ about ‘protest and mourning’.
After going viral for dressing up as Kennedy bathed in the blood of her assassinated husband John F. Kennedy, she provided the background on Instagram.
“I’m dressed up as Jackie Kennedy in a pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement,” she wrote.
“When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her bloody clothes, saying, ‘Look what we’ve done.’ The image of a delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting contrasts in modern history.”
According to Fox, 35, the images are both “beautiful and scary,” “calm and desolate.”
She called the former first lady’s “decision not to change clothes, even when advised,” an “extraordinary act of courage.”
The “Uncut Gems” star concluded, “It was a performance, a protest, and a memorial all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. This is a story about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O ♥️.”
Some commenters said the caption “saved my life” because “not everyone has this kind of mindset.”
However, some people “think there is still a problem.”
Fox arrived at The Cursed Amulet’s Halloween party in New York City on Thursday night wearing a double-breasted pink tweed skirt covered in fake blood. She accessorized with a pillbox hat and a sturdy handbag.
After the 35th president of the United States was shot and killed in 1963, his widow famously chose to stand next to Lyndon B. Johnson as he was sworn in as president-elect, wearing the same outfit she wore as she held him in the ill-fated convertible.
Historian Steve Gillon told People magazine in 2022, “Despite these horrific circumstances, she was willing to be photographed because she understood what it meant for the country to continue to be in government. … In fact, they had another dress for her to wear, but she refused.”
When it comes to Fox, her fashion choices often make headlines, but few require explanation in public.
