On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart pointed out all the signs that Donald Trump may be planning a third term in office.
Later in his Monday night monologue, Stewart played footage of a journalist on Air Force One asking President Trump if he was “willing to go to court” to seek a third term in office. President Trump’s response was, “Well, I don’t really think about that.”
To which Stewart playfully responded by shouting, “Yeah! He’s doing it! ‘I don’t think about it.'” That’s the answer when he’s asked about something legally, ethically, morally questionable. He said he hasn’t thought about it, but of course we know he is thinking about it because he already has the goods. ” The Late Night Pundit then cut to a photo of two “Trump 2028” hats on a desk in the Oval Office.
“Of course, the naysayers are going to have a problem. They’re going to say that the president can’t serve more than two terms because of the 22nd Amendment,” Stewart added. “But what’s interesting about Trump is that he’s actually played out different scenarios of running for a third term that he hadn’t even considered.”
Back on Air Force One, reporters asked President Trump if he would run for vice president for a third term. The president asserted that “that’s allowed,” but repeatedly thought the tactic was “too cute” for him to try.
“Too cute? No, that’s why I never go to Build-A-Bear when I grow up,” Stewart joked. “Running for vice president to get around the 22nd Amendment isn’t cute. But he’s the kind of guy who says, ‘I respect the American people too much to play games. If I ever run again, I’m going to rip the Constitution by its throat and break its neck.'” And the truth is, the signs that he intends to do that are very clear. You don’t have to move into a house, tear down a wing, and build a 90,000 square foot ballroom for the next person. ”
