When director Johnny Knoxville announced that a new Jackass movie would be released in theaters in June, fans of the slapstick stunt film series wondered what role the 54-year-old mastermind would play in the film.
In 2022’s Jackass Forever, Knoxville performed a stunt where she was mauled by a bull. He flipped in the air and landed on his head, causing a brain bleed, a concussion, a broken wrist, and broken ribs. He talks about how his injury has changed his outlook for the future and says he intends to retire from dangerous stunts. What’s more, the fourth “Jackass” movie features a large cast of young actors in addition to the original crew, hinting at a potential future for the series.
During a short discussion about “Jackass 5” on the “Books That Changed My Life” podcast, Knoxville was asked, “Are stunts not allowed anymore?”
“If I get another concussion, there’s nothing I can do,” Knoxville said. “(I’m) way beyond the concussion limit, but I don’t care about anything else. I can’t hit my head anymore. But a lot of other people can.”
“Jackass” is “absolute hell for the cast, but it’s a lot of fun for me,” Knoxville said, adding, “They’re having fun too. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Jackass 5 will be released in theaters on June 26th by Paramount Pictures. Little is known about the project other than that it will include new material and unreleased archival footage. Original cast member Bam Margera has signed on to appear in old footage in an effort to end a years-long feud between him and the “Jackass” team following his firing from the fourth film, Variety reported. Margiela has no plans to film any new stunts.
