JK Rowling recently clashed with Harry Potter star Emma Watson after being opened up about their complicated relationship.
On Monday, September 29th, Rowling, 60, posted a long message to X after seeing “a fair commentary” about Watson’s interview with Jay Shetty on the September 24 episode of his intentional podcast.
Watson is famous for playing Hermione Granger in the film adaptation of Rowling’s Harry Potter novel, released between 2001 and 2011.
In recent years, Rowling has attracted considerable controversy for anti-transgender comments and support for others with transphobic views, but both Watson and Radcliffe have publicly expressed their support for the transgender community.
On Monday’s X-Post, Rowling wrote: “Like others who have never experienced an adult life that is not caught up in wealth and fame, Emma has very little real life experience of being ignorant about how ignorant she is.”

She began her message by writing, “I don’t owes eternal agreements from the actors who played the characters I once created. I’m as slutty as I check with the boss I had when I was 21 years old about the opinions I should have recently.”
“Emma Watson and her co-stars have all the rights to embrace the ideology of gender identity. Such beliefs are legally protected and we don’t want to see any of them being blackmailed for loss of work, violence or death,” Rowling continued.

“But Emma and Dan in particular have made it clear in recent years that we believe our previous association of professionals gives them a certain right – no, duty to criticize me and my views publicly,” the author added. “A few years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to take over the role of de facto spokesmen of the world I created.”
“I don’t think it’s where I landed it, it’s not what we say or what we believe, it’s the way we say it,” Rowling said after Watson told Shetty in a lengthy podcast interview.

“I believe no one is disposable,” she continued. “And everyone can and can, at least treat and treat dignity and respect, whatever the conversation is, as far as possible.”
“I think the thing that makes me most angry is that conversations have never been made impossible,” Watson told Shetty about the situation. When Shetty asked if Watson was “open for that conversation” with Rowling, the actress agreed, but she said, “I didn’t want to say that she continues to weaponize toxic debate and conversations, so I wouldn’t continue to comment or comment.”
Watson also pointed out Rowling’s “kindness, encouragement and immoral words” in the past, and after discussing the surprising opportunity given to portray Hermione in Rowling’s series, he said, “I can’t cancel her or cancel her.”
Watson’s recent comments came after he appeared to have been dug up in rolling while standing on stage at the 2022 BAFTA Awards.
Watson was introduced at the time by host Rebel Wilson, who said, “To present her next award here, Emma Watson calls herself a feminist, but we all know that she is a witch.”
When she took the stage, Watson said, “I’m here for all the witches,” as shown in video footage shared by British outlet The Independent.

Rowling mentioned the comment in her X post, “The truth is, that was a turning point for me, but there was a much more hurtful addition than the speech itself.”
“I asked Emma to give me a handwritten note from her, which included a single sentence: “I’m so sorry that she has my phone number, what you’re going through,” the author continued. “This came back when the threat of death, rape and torture against me was at their peak. When I had to make my personal security measures quite strict, I was always worried about the safety of my family.”
“I thought Emma had just poured more gas into the flames, but I thought one expression of concern from her would reassure her fundamental sympathy and kindness,” Rowling admitted that until recently, it was difficult to shake up certain protections for the cast when she had known them from around the age of 10.”
A Watson spokesman did not immediately respond when people contacted him to comment on Rowling’s post.
