Jimmy Kimmel always targets Donald Trump in his monologues on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” but his latest one took aim at Trump’s wife, Melania, ahead of the release of the documentary of the same name in theaters nationwide. “Melania,” directed by Brett Ratner and distributed by Amazon MGM, follows the first lady during the 20 days leading up to Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration.
“Melania is very upset that the Minneapolis murders are overshadowing the $75 million bribe that Amazon made for her, according to author Michael Wolff, and the release of the documentary,” Kimmel joked, referring to the Inside Trump’s Head podcast where Wolf claimed Melania was “really upset” that the national backlash against ICE brutality in Minnesota was taking away the profile of her documentary. Release.
Kimmel then played footage of first lady Melania Trump promoting the documentary on Fox News, in which the first lady sent a message to divided Americans: “We need to come together. I want unity.”
“Oh, great, Melania is calling for unity,” Kimmel quipped. “Or she’s ordering tea. ‘Do you need tea?'”
Kimmel also stated how much his family loved the film and mocked Melania for promoting the film. The first lady claimed on Fox News that President Donald Trump “loves it” and called it a “must-see.”
“Well, this movie is a must-see for him,” Kimmel shot back, claiming that the only reason Trump had to see the movie was because it was about his wife. “My guess is he watched the first eight minutes and fell asleep in the popcorn bucket.”
First lady Melania Trump also said that Barron Trump “loved being in this movie,” and Kimmel quipped, “Her son and husband loved it too. Everyone who was in the movie has raved about it. That’s enough for me!”
According to the documentary’s official synopsis, the film gives viewers the chance to “step into Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates her inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and returns to public life with her family.” The studio added that the film includes “exclusive footage” of “important meetings” and “private conversations.”
“Melania,” directed by Ratner, will be released in theaters on Amazon on January 30th. Watch Kimmel’s latest monologue in the video below.
