Marcello Hernandez tested a lollipop that plays music on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Hernandez hummed along to MIA’s “Bad Girls” during a segment YouTuber and technology expert Linus Sebastian explained how the new technology works

Marcello Hernandez experienced the wonders of science and technology in real time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

On Thursday, Jan. 15’s episode, the Saturday Night Live cast member, 28, sat behind a desk alongside Fallon, 51, as YouTuber and tech expert Linus Sebastian showed them innovative technology. The first product was Lollipop Star, an edible lollipop that could hear music through its mouth.

After hearing the explanation, Hernandez started laughing. “Is that a slogan?” Fallon asked.

“It’s very easy to use. I’ll be really careful. I won’t touch it until the end, because you’ll need it.”

Sebastian then pulled out the product, a bright pink stick with a knob on the top, handed one to Fallon and the other to Hernandez, before explaining how the device worked.

“You just pull this out. Hold this button down for three seconds, and we’ll give you some instructions that you’ve probably never heard and never will,” Sebastian explained.

“You can put it in your mouth and put it against your teeth. You can even chew on it a little bit. Just cover your eyes,” Sebastian added.

“I wish you all the best in your career, but I have a problem with what you said today,” Hernandez joked, as the audience laughed.

“Press and hold for three seconds,” Sebastian instructed.

“Is it supposed to be flashing?” Hernandez asked, to which Sebastian replied, “Yes.”

“What the hell?” Fallon said, biting into a lollipop. “Oh, hey!” Hernandez said.

Questlove of the late-night show’s house band, The Roots, also indulged in the unique lollipop and expressed similar awe.

“Normally, sound is vibrations in the air. Sound hits the eardrum, travels to the inner ear, and then to the bones that are there. With bone conduction technology, you just hit the bone with very small vibrations, and it goes directly to the inner ear,” Sebastian explained of Lollipop’s technology.

Hernandez then began humming MIA’s “Bad Girls”, indicating that it was a song related to Lollipop. Fallon later joined.

The comedian hosted his first Netflix comedy special, “American Boy,” on January 7th.
