Jenny McCarthy is still by Jim Carrey’s side.
A month after the comedian made headlines for his “unrecognizable” appearance at the Cesar Awards, McCarthy defended him and assured people he was not a “clone.”
When asked by People about the conspiracy theory that he had been “replaced” by a “clone” at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, she declared without a doubt, “It was definitely Jim Carrey” at the French awards.
Instead, she just focused on how happy he looked at that moment.
“He looked so happy at the awards ceremony, and I was happy for him,” she told the magazine. “That was the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Wow, Jim looks really happy.'”
McCarthy’s husband, Donnie Wahlberg, agreed: “That’s the part that people miss, sadly. We were so obsessed with how he looked that we didn’t take into account how happy he looked.”
McCarthy, 53, and Carey dated from 2005 to 2010, and began dating the Blue Bloods actor, 56, in 2013.
In early March, the 64-year-old comedian Ace Ventura caused an uproar on social media after he appeared unrecognizably at the Cesar Awards ceremony.
“I can’t believe they haven’t cloned Jim Carrey…” one suspicious X user wrote at the time.
“I’ve been talking about human cloning for a long time and I’m glad to see it finally getting attention. Jim Carrey was cloned years ago. Something changed behind the scenes so we could see an unfinished and dysfunctional clone,” another added.
“I don’t understand why people don’t think this is Jim Carrey. He just had bad plastic surgery…” a third person claimed.
However, his agent, Marleah Leslie, denied the allegations, claiming, “Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards Ceremony, where he received an honorary Cesar Award.”
Gregory Collier, executive director of the Cesar Awards, also slammed the impersonation allegations, calling Carey’s rare outing a “historic moment.”
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the beginning he was very moved by the Academy’s invitation,” Courier told Variety, adding that Carrey “had been working on his French speech for months and quizzing me on the correct pronunciation of certain words.”
Corrier revealed that the Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind actor attended the ceremony with his “partner, daughter, grandson and 12 close friends and family.”
“His long-time publicist was also there. His old friend Michel Gondry, who made a film and two series with him, was also there and happy to be reunited,” he continued. “To me, it doesn’t matter. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his compassion, his grace.”
Meanwhile, one plastic surgeon speculated that his appearance may have been achieved through “extensive surgical modification” that cost more than $60,000.
Carey took a break from acting in the late 2010s, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2018 that she “didn’t want to be in the industry anymore” and wanted to focus on other creative passions.
The “Dumb & Dumber” actor stepped away from the spotlight in the late 2010s, saying he wanted to focus on other creative endeavors and “no longer wanted to be in the industry.”
However, due to funds running out, he returned as a voice actor in 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
