Trinity Media has acquired the Hong Kong and Taiwan distribution rights to Bluefish, a Korean-Malaysian-Indonesian co-production starring Ji Seung-hyun, Cecilia Choi and Yayan Ruhian, ahead of the project’s market debut at Hong Kong Filmart.
Autumn Sun Company will be unveiling the film’s official poster and first look footage to buyers in the market. The project, directed by Lee Sang-hoon and aiming for a theatrical release in fall 2026, has completed principal photography ahead of the Hong Kong market.
Stephanie Cheung of Trinity Media, which specializes in theatrical marketing in Hong Kong, framed the casting as a callback to some of the most commercially successful cross-cultural pairings in Korean cinema. “It’s been a long time since audiences enjoyed a Korean film that blended a Chinese actress with a Korean leading man, in the tradition of Cecilia Cheung in ‘Feilan’ and Tang Wei in ‘Late Autumn,'” she said. “These are memorable films, and we hope that Cecilia Choi’s performance in ‘Bluefish’ is what audiences truly expect.”
Director Ji, known for his work on “Korean-Khitan War” and “Hot Blood,” leads the cast as a castaway who experiences a tragic past when he crosses paths with a mute milk delivery girl. Director Choi, whose credits include Beyond the Dream and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, co-stars with Indonesian action star Ruhian in a key supporting role. The film was shot on location in Yeongdeok and Busan.
Choi’s broad regional profile strengthens the film’s sales proposition. One of Hong Kong’s most popular actresses, she has a string of Asian co-productions including Break and Reentering, Mudborn and Tipsy 1980s, and will next co-star with Louis Koo in Wilson Yip’s Dreams, Bubbles and Shadows.
Joanne Go, CEO of Jazzy Pictures and producer of “Bluefish,” said Lee’s emotional storytelling was the creative backbone of the project. “His past works such as ‘The Windmill’ and ‘Family Secrets’ deeply moved the audience,” Go said. “His unique ability to capture human emotions makes him the perfect fit for this cross-border collaboration, and we believe Bluefish will resonate well beyond Asia.”
