Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe is delighted to be reliving another day as Tree Gelbman in the third installment of the series.
Rothe, who starred in the 2017 film Happy Death Day and its 2019 sequel Happy Death Day 2U, recently revealed that writer/director Christopher Landon has discussed the future of the Groundhog Day-style horror-comedy series and is “contemplating a whole third movie.”
“I think this is the power of the zeitgeist. I think the more we ask for it and the more we put it into the universe, the more it will happen,” she told ScreenRant. “Because the truth is, Chris Landon, our brilliant and fearless writer and director, has it all figured out in this third one.”
In “Happy Death Day,” Rothe plays a college girl named Tree who is murdered on her birthday and then wakes up that morning. As the nightmarish days repeat, each time leading to her death, she must uncover the identity of the killer to stop the cycle. The sequel incorporates sci-fi elements, with Tree finding herself in a parallel universe as a result of her friend’s time travel experiments.
Rothe added, “At this point, I think it’s just logistics. And all I can say to you guys and the fans is that when Jamie Lee Curtis comes back to ‘Halloween,’ whether it’s next year or when I turn 65, I’ll be there to finish the story of the tree. So it’s just a matter of when they have all their ducks in place.”
Rothe also said that all of Landon’s movies would be perfect for a crossover event, saying, “I think we also have his version of the MCU, but the ‘Chris CU’, which includes ‘Freaky,’ ‘Happy Death Day,’ ‘We Have a Ghost,’ and ‘Scouts into the Zombie Apocalypse,’ could all totally live in the same world. That’s the crossover event I need right now.” life. ”
