“Severance’s” Jessica Lee Gagné made history for Emmy at the Creative Arts Awards ceremony on Saturday night.
Gagne had already secured a place for history books as she became the first woman to be nominated in both categories for cinematography/director in the same year for the same drama series.
After her victory, Gagne spoke to filming in general about the representation of women. No woman won an Oscar in that field. Gagne shared that she was driven to succeed as a cinematologist after experiencing levels of discrimination early in her career. “I worked for a guy who said there were two things women couldn’t do. I was a one-storey driver or cinematography director. And that motivated me a lot.”
She said it was “a dream I’ve wanted for a long time,” but now she wants to continue working as a director.
The second season of “Retirement” begins with the mark of Adam Scott as he sprints through a series of long empty halls in Lumen Industries. It looks like one. However, in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic VFX supervisor Eric Leven, it was revealed that the sequence could not be filmed as Oner, as envisaged. Gagné finally filmed the sequences stitched together using gears that included Gimbal, Steadicam and even a motion control system.
Overall, the most nominated show, “Severance” won six wins on the first night of Creative Arts Emmy, which includes guest actresses from the Merritt Wever drama series. Speaking about that perception, Gagne said. “It’s such a special show. I think it was a bit of a weaker when the first season came out. People really didn’t realize.
The highlights of the two Creative Arts Emmy Awards Ceremonies will air on FXX at 8pm on September 13th.
