Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sofía Vergara are BFFs!
Vergara, 53, starred alongside Ferguson, 49, in the Modern Family, but flew to New York City and saw him perform at Shakespeare in the 12th night park production at the Dela Corte Theater in Central Park.
On the opening night of the play on August 21st, Ferguson said that Vergara said, “I think I’m going to New York, can I get a ticket?” Of course, I saved her. ”
The Griselda actress came to preview on August 16th along with Ferguson’s husband Justin Mikita and five-year-old son Beckett Mercer.
“My husband just broke his leg and Sofia had knee surgery. So the two brought their 5-year-old to the park were hilarious,” Ferguson said, adding, “I sent a golf cart to go to the theatre.”
The host of the dinner podcast jokingly says of the situation where “Beckett was the person I was most worried about.”
Nevertheless, Vergara, who shared that he went through a second step on Instagram on July for his knee, enjoyed the outing.
“She loved the show,” Ferguson said. “I thought she was in town to do other things, and she happened to be here to see me, but no, she flew to see this. She’s a good friend.”
Ferguson posted a behind-the-scenes photo of Vergara herself and her friend Dan Levy in a preview on Instagram on August 17th. “Last night’s 12th had some special people in last night’s audience, including the first Shakespeare.”

The 12th night isn’t Ferguson’s first visit at Shakespeare in the park. The actor starred in a previous production of Midsummer Night’s Dream, Error’s comedy, and Tempest. He also won a Tony Award in 2022.

Regarding his long-term relationship with the Dela Corte Theater, Ferguson says it’s in more shape than ever, following two years of renovations.
“What got me most excited about was the new bathroom. They were terrible before. There was dungeon air in the dressing room. There was a wall of cinder blocks, and it wasn’t a good place to hang out,” he admits.
