Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about how she and her husband Cooke Maroney keep their marriage strong as two people who are “opposite” to each other.
The 35-year-old actress appeared on the Jan. 12 episode of the podcast “SmartLess,” hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. During the conversation, Ms. Lawrence talked about how Ms. Maroney (she has two children) is the “anchor” of the family and keeps everyone “organized.”
“I married someone who is the complete opposite of me. Yes, he’s very organized,” she said. “Everything is ordered. For example, I have to keep the closet door closed, and I have small jobs to do, and I do them diligently.”
Lawrence admitted that it was difficult to keep to a schedule, but after becoming a mother, she realized how important it was.
“I understand, I understand,” she said. “(The kids) have a very strict schedule. You know, it’s like breakfast, it’s 7:30.”

Lawrence said Maroney is “good at keeping (the family’s) schedule” but can sometimes struggle. So they have rules. “We learned to take 15 minutes of freedom to keep our marriage going,” the No Hard Feelings star explained.

The couple has kept their relationship fairly private, but Lawrence first spoke publicly about her husband in June 2019 after their engagement.
“Well, he’s the best person I’ve ever met in my life,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” She added that saying “yes” when Maroney proposed was “a very, very easy decision.”
In a November 2021 interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence opened up about the low-key things she and her husband enjoy.
“I really enjoy going to the grocery store with him,” she said. “I don’t know why, but it makes me feel very happy. I think it’s because it’s almost like a marriage metaphor: ‘Okay, we’ve got this list. This is what we need. Let’s work together to get this done.'”
The couple stepped out together on Sunday, January 11, for a rare public date night at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles. They were photographed sitting side by side at a table inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Maroney wore a classic black tuxedo and bow tie, while Lawrence turned heads in a bold sheer nude dress with floral embroidery.
