Jennifer Lawrence’s husband Cooke Maroney made a strong impression on the actress when they first met in 2018.
In a new interview with The New Yorker, the Oscar winner, 35, reflected on that encounter. She told a mutual friend, the writer and director Gene Stupnitsky, that she was interested in purchasing the painting, and he suggested she contact Mr. Maloney, 41, an art dealer in New York.
“I was like, ‘What is this name? What should I call him?'” Lawrence told the magazine. When she met him after he invited her to a gallery show, she continued, “I was like, ‘Whoa.'”
“I had no idea he was sexy or single,” she said of the 6-foot-5 Maroney.

The couple got engaged the following February and tied the knot in October 2019 at Belcourt in Newport, Rhode Island, PEOPLE confirmed at the time. Guests included Adele, Kris Jenner, Amy Schumer and Robert De Niro.
“I’ll never forget. I had guests getting cold and all my friends were lying. They were like, ‘No one’s cold, no one’s cold, everything’s okay, everything’s okay,'” she recalled to E! 2024 news,
“My mom said, ‘It’s freezing outside. My grandma almost died,'” she added.
In a 2021 interview with Vanity Fair, she opened up about how much she is enjoying her marriage and spending time with Maroney.

“I really enjoy going to the grocery store with him. I don’t know why, but I feel so happy. Maybe it’s because it’s almost like a marriage metaphor: ‘Okay, we’ve got this list. Here’s what we need. Let’s work together to get it done,'” she said.
The couple are parents to son Sai, born in 2022, and second baby, born in early 2025. Lawrence has not revealed the name or gender of her youngest child.
The couple named their son after artist Cy Twombly, one of Maroney’s favorite painters. Lawrence told The New Yorker that she is learning more about the art world thanks to her husband.
“I learned a lot through osmosis, because when you ask him about his day, the story is about art,” she said.
