Jennifer Hudson is reacting to Kelly Clarkson’s announcement that she is quitting her talk show.
“Kelly is amazing,” Ms. Hudson told me Friday at the premiere of her new animated film “Goat.” “I wish her the best of luck. She did a really good job and she’s a goat!”
Clarkson announced on February 2 that the current seventh season of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will be her last. “Taking a break from our daily schedules will allow us to prioritize our children, which feels necessary and right for the next chapter of our lives,” she said in part in a statement.
Production on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” Season 7 will continue as previously planned, with the series airing its final episode this fall. This season will also feature special guest hosts to be announced at a later date.
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” first aired in 2019. In this series, Clarkson interviews celebrities as well as ordinary people and shares their inspiring stories. Each episode begins with a “Kellyoke” segment, in which Clarkson and her band perform covers of other artists’ songs. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has won 24 Daytime Emmy Awards, including four consecutive wins for both Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Talk Show Host.
The show is produced by Universal Television, distributed by NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, and airs in more than 200 markets across the United States. Alex Duda will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
“The Jennifer Hudson Show” premiered in 2022 and was nominated for 12 Daytime Emmy Awards.
The day after Clarkson’s announcement, Sherri Shepherd’s show “Shelly” was canceled after four seasons by producer Debmar Mercury.
“Goat” tells the story of Will (Caleb McLaughlin), a goat who aspires to play lowerball, a basketball-like game played by the world’s most powerful animals. Hudson plays Will’s mother. The cast also includes Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry (who is also a producer on the film), Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbor, Jennifer Lewis, Aaron Pierre, Patton Oswalt, Andrew Santino, Bobby Lee, Eduardo Franco, Cherie Cola, and Jelly Roll.
“My son is my goat,” Hudson said. “I’m so proud of him. He quits basketball practice to come to Premier. Stephen Curry is a goat. Michael Jordan is a goat. LeBron (James) is a goat. That’s why I love sports. I’m a basketball mom and I love sports. No matter what, it’s so inspiring to me to see people fight for their dreams and goals. Win or lose, go down with the ball, okay? I love it.”
“Goat” will be released on February 13th.
