Jelly Roll confessed that if there was a “gold digger” in his marriage to Bunny Zoe, it was him.
“I love calling her a gold digger,” the “Save Me” hitmaker told Taste of Country Night in a recent interview, before admitting, “She hates it.”
“It just infuriates her,” he continued. “But that just tickled me completely pink, because when I met her, I was homeless living in a 1996 converted van, so if anyone was digging for gold, it was me, Popeye.”
He joked, “I was couchsurfing and ended up in the bedroom, you know?”
The “I Am Not Okay” singer, 41, and his wife have had their fair share of troubles since they got married in 2016. Earlier this year, he broke his collarbone in an ATV accident and was rushed to the hospital.
He did not share news of his injury until earlier this month, and his wife was clearly shaken by the incident.
Bunny Zaw, 46, uploaded a photo to Instagram of the Grammy winner lying in a hospital bed with a neck brace, captioning it: “This happened in January. Worst phone call ever.” “But thankfully we got through it and he made a full recovery.”
Bunny Zoe has also spoken out in recent months about how Jelly Roll’s past infidelity affected her long-term marriage to the bombshell influencer.
In her memoir Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, released last month, she recalled becoming “depressed” when the hitmaker left her home in Nashville with her daughter Bayley from a previous relationship after a fight.
He then became “furious” when his wife, whom he suspected of cheating on her, attended a local concert unannounced. Despite denying the affair, the podcaster, whose real name is Alisa Deford, later learned that her ex-lover was waiting for her at a hotel down the street.
Jelly Roll’s best friend’s wife eventually admitted that he was actually having an affair with another woman that night.
“She confirmed all the doubts and fears I’ve felt for the last 10 months,” Bunny wrote, adding that she decided to return to Las Vegas amidst the drama.
“That night I considered taking my own life,” she further wrote. “The pain was so intense that I really wanted to end it all.”
Afterward, she wrote, “I took a deep breath. Tomorrow is a new day. It’s time to get out of here.”
After it was all over, Bunny Zaw said what hurt her the most was that Jelly Roll (real name Jason Bradley Deford) had been “emotionally unfaithful” to her, including giving his mistress a home.
She finally decided to forgive the singer. “It would take years to put the extramarital affair aside,” she wrote in her memoir. “It’s going to be years before I actually feel like this man loves me and that I’m not disposable.”
On an October episode of the Human School podcast, the singer admitted that the incident was “one of the worst moments of my adult life.”
But, he said, “the repair was special and we came out stronger than ever.”
