Jeff Daniels sings Donald Trump protest song

Jeff Daniels channeled his musical side during an interview with Nicole Wallace on MSNBC’s “Deadline: The White House,” performing a live performance of an acoustic protest song he wrote titled “Crazy World.” The actor explained that the song was inspired by No Kings’ protests against the Trump administration and is about “how I deal with it.”

“Crazy World” finds Daniels choosing to focus on the more enjoyable things in life, despite America’s political turmoil. As Daniels sings in the chorus, “In a world full of hate, it’s nice to know there are still people who love each other.” In his poems, the actor sings fondly of seeing “a young girl smiling” or seeing an old couple walking together, but these fleeting moments have taken on more meaning than ever since “this crazy world has gone crazy.”

Daniels has long been an outspoken critic of Trump. He made headlines over the summer for slamming those who voted for President Trump, saying, “To those of you who thought this was okay, I hope you’re going to lose a lot of money. My question is, what are you going to do about this?”

In his latest interview with Wallace, Daniels remained hopeful that Trump voters are beginning to understand how the president is failing to deliver on his 2024 campaign promises, such as lowering food prices. Does that mean Trump supporters might change their minds come the midterm elections? Daniels is optimistic.

“I think people who voted for him because they don’t like Kamala or because they don’t like the Democratic Party are looking at whether things cost more money,” Daniels said. “That was one of the things he promised, like every president promises: ‘We’re going to lower prices.'” That would make him a hero in the midterm elections. If you don’t, they will notice it. ”

Daniels also addressed Trump’s controversial response to the No King protests, via an AI video of Trump flying over demonstrators and dropping feces (or, as Daniels put it, “spitting excrement”).

“Nixon wouldn’t have done it, Reagan wouldn’t have done it… Bush wouldn’t have done it,” Daniels said of President Trump’s immature response. “I think people in the Midwest, where I come from, value civility and civility…I think that’s important. If he doesn’t deliver on the economy as promised, those things will start to pile up and we’ll get fed up with it and vote for change.”

Daniels often accuses President Trump of using social media to bully people he doesn’t like, explaining that over the summer, “we lost our decency, we lost our civility, we lost our respect for the rule of law, we lost it. Internet abuse became the norm. Bullying became the norm. Just as the woke generation tried to change it, it came back.”

“I mean, nobody can say great things about politicians. They never do,” Daniels added at the time. “Let’s go back to Mark Twain. But ideally, we should choose the best among us, not the worst among us. He is the one who is wrong not only with America, but with everything that is human.”
