Driver Jay Cutler was a hit in last year’s DUI incident. This is a former NFL star who was sentenced to prison time and is now suing him.
The driver, identified as Perry Lee, filed a lawsuit on September 2nd. He is seeking unspecified compensation for unexpected medical expenses, “physical and mental distress,” according to documents obtained by people.
Lee also claims that the direct and proximity of the conflict that occurred in Franklin, Tennessee on October 17, 2024, resulted in “incurring a loss of wages, loss of revenue, or other out-of-pocket costs, or a combination of these.”
“Our client is a veteran injured in a car accident on suspicion of the negligence of another driver,” Pierce and Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan, who represents Lee, said in a statement to the outlet.
“The injury caused by his crash caused him daily pain and erodes his quality of life,” the statement continued. “We want justice for him, so he tries to get the care he needs and move forward with his life.”
Lee’s lawyer Sidney Pierce also wrote in writing that Cutler was drunk at the time of the crash.
“Cutler was unable to use reasonable and dew care to operate the vehicle he was driving to avoid injuries to others using the roads that include (Lee),” Pierce wrote.
Cutler representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment on page 6.
Last month, the former Chicago Bears quarterback was sentenced to four days behind bars after striking a plea contract in a drunk driving and gun possession case.
Cutler, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI. Prosecutors dismissed the possession of the weapon by confiscation of the weapon.
Aside from his prison time, he is also fined $350, requires a year of supervised probation and submits to regular and random drug tests.
Additionally, his license was revoked.
Kristin Cavallari’s ex-husband was arrested last October for DUI, possession of a gun, failure to exercise proper care, and violation of the implicit consent law.
Cutler allegedly supported another vehicle and tried to escape from the scene before police arrived, the Franklin Police Department told Page 6 at the time. According to a police report, he offered to pay the driver $2,000 if he didn’t call police.
When officers arrived, they claimed he was visibly drunk. Searching Cutler’s white ram truck, officers found two firearms in the vehicle containing the loaded pistol.
Although Cutler has never commented on the incident, Cavalari, who shares his son, Camden, 13, shares 11-year-old Jackson and his daughter, Saylor, 9, with him.
“Of course, Jay hopes the best. I hope he gets the help he needs, but that’s the only thing I say about it publicly,” she said.
