Jason Isaac has been calming from drugs and alcohol for 27 years.
The 62-year-old White Lotus actor marked the milestone on Sunday, October 5th in a rare, long Instagram post. It began with a candid reflection in 1998 when I calmed down all day, and ended with a hopeful message.
Isaacs said, “Twenty-seven years ago, 24 hours before today, the sun rose, and cleaned up drugs and alcohol throughout adult life. I didn’t wake up, so I didn’t wake up. I didn’t sleep.”
“To keep you away from temptation, avoid ripping your floorboards, or searching for all your clothing (again) – both are surprisingly fruitful the day before, so I spent the whole night naked in a high street sauna in a stump of bewildered taxi drivers,” the Harry Potter alumni continued. “I didn’t know how long it would last, but that morning I started flashing and cooking in large quantities in pink. I felt something I hadn’t felt in decades. Hope.”
“I got through the night. Who knew what was possible?” he recalls thinking.

Isaacs continued to explain why he decided to post honestly by answering the question “Why am I telling you?”
“Because,” the actor wrote.
“So I’m writing that it’s possible,” he continued. “If you ask for help. You don’t need to do that the way I did, but you’re there even without you, but you’re always back in your situation.

The star, who is married to Emma Hewitt, whom he shares two daughters, concluded by expressing gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his drinking journey for nearly 30 years.

“I thank everyone who helped me step into my sanity in a crazy world, often by laughing at me,” Isaacs writes. “It’s not false humility or humility to say I couldn’t do it without you. I’ve tried it myself for years and I’ve failed every time.”
“I am very grateful to be present in life. Something terrible, painful, even scary. I have run to them before, and now, not always, not always. I will show up,” he concluded. “Good luck. You can do that. X.”
Some of Isaacs’ friends and former co-stars shared messages of support in comments on his post, including his adduction castmate Taylor Lautner.
The on-screen sons of the White Lotus actor also commented on the post, with Patrick Schwarzenegger sharing the heart emoji and Sam Nivola writing, “I love you Jays ❤.”

Isaacs was previously opened about his drinking journey.
In 2020, the actor recalls his struggles with big issues and addiction in 2020, “I’ve always had an addictive personality and by the age of 16 I’ve already got through my drink and started in a decades-long romance with drugs.”
“Every action was filtered by the burning need I had to feel as much as possible, my thoughts, the kind of burning need I had,” he continued at the time. “The message hasn’t passed for nearly 20 years.”
