James Wan’s Paranormal Activity sequel set for summer 2027

Paramount is hoping the new Paranormal Activity sequel will get off to an eerie start in the summer of 2027. The studio plans to release the latest installment in its found footage horror series on May 21, 2027, but the title has not been decided at this time.

James Wan and Jason Blum will produce the film through their company Blumhouse Atomic Monster, which is co-financed by Paramount. Oren Peli, director of the 2007 original, will also produce through his Solana Films banner. The first film was shot for $15,000, made a splash on the festival circuit, and was later acquired by Paramount, who spent an additional $200,000 creating a new ending. Upon its theatrical release in 2009, it grossed $194 million worldwide, making it one of the most profitable films of all time.

There are seven movies in the series, including Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), Paranormal Activity 4 (2012), The Marked Ones (2014), Ghost Dimension (2015), and Next of Kin (2021). The series has grossed over $900 million at the worldwide box office.

The director of the new movie “Paranormal Activity” is Ian Tuason. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it probably involves something demonic and creepy (we’re just guessing!). Paramount announced plans for a sequel shortly after the company was acquired by Skydance Media last year. Skydance Media is aggressively trying to shore up the studio’s moribund film production program.

The latest film, “Paranormal,” will go head-to-head with Warner Bros.’ animated family comedy “Bad Fairies,” which is aimed at a completely different demographic. Next weekend will see the release of “Star Wars: Starfighter,” Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s attempt to revive the space opera story on the big screen.

Director Wang is the director of “Saw” and “The Conjuring.” Blum created horror hits such as “Get Out” and “The Purge.”
