Jake Knapp spoke after the death of his girlfriend, Makena White.
Hours after White’s death was announced on Friday, September 26th, the PGA golfer broke his silence and recalled his girlfriend in a statement.
“Makena was a very thoughtful person whose selflessness towards others is something I always appreciate,” Knap issued a statement exclusively to people. “We shared so many unforgettable memories together, but it’s a difficult reality to understand as she’s not with us anymore. She has incredible friends, great friends, and her fun, boring energy is missed by all of us.

Knap and White reportedly began dating in August 2024 in August 2023. After Knapp won in February 2024, according to NBC broadcasts, X’s PGA Tour account posted a video of White’s reaction to Knapp’s victory.
White’s friends shared the news of her death in a post on White’s Instagram account on Friday, September 26th, announcing the 28-year-old Ottawa native had passed away earlier that week.
“Everyone – this is Makena’s friend, and I write with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week.” “She’s already been deeply overlooked by her father, family, friends and of course Nelly and Fergie,” referring to White’s two dogs.
White was “one of the kind,” and “had this rare way of making you feel special,” her friend wrote, adding, “her huge heart is always full of love.”
“Being loved by Makena was a gift. As we kept up to her travel schedule, it came with endless laughter, so much joy, and healthy sprinkles of chaos,” the friend added.
Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic previously shared that White’s mother, Crystal, began going to Clinic 2018 and was eventually diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. According to White’s Instagram, her mom passed away in April 2022.
“We love you. We always miss you and we are looking for you at sunset,” the friend concluded.
