Jacob Elordi’s mother, Melissa Elordi, was caught on camera having an awkward exchange with Leonardo DiCaprio backstage at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.
The “Euphoria” star was filmed introducing her mother to Sean Penn and DiCaprio in a TikTok video posted to the Golden Globes’ official TikTok account. Melissa happily ran over to meet Penn, who then shook hands with DiCaprio after Penn appeared to take the gum he was chewing out of his mouth before shaking hands.
DiCaprio politely told her, “Hello, nice to meet you,” and then pointed to his mother, Irmelin Indenverkin, who was by his side during the ceremony.
“Mom,” he said to Melissa, clearly wanting them to meet.
But Melissa no longer paid attention and started talking to Penn.
Jacob then tried to induce his mother to recognize DiCaprio’s mother, but Melissa continued to talk to Penn.
Fans noted that Melissa appeared to accidentally disparage DiCaprio in the comments section.
One comment read: “Leo tried to introduce his mother but was ignored😢.”
Another comment read: “They left him hanging 😭😭.”
Another fan pointed out: “Leonardo DiCaprio deserves a hug after that 😭.”
Jacob received two nominations Sunday for Best Supporting Actor for Frankenstein and Best Actor in a Limited Series for Best Actor in a Limited Series, but lost to Stellan Skarsgård and Stephen Graham, respectively.
DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical Comedy or Motion Picture for his performance in One Battle After Another, but went home empty-handed thanks to Timothée Chalamet’s win.
At the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, DiCaprio made headlines for yet another candid moment when he was caught on camera gushing about K-pop to a stranger during a commercial break.
“One Battle After Another” co-star Teyana Taylor initially said he was talking to her, but backtracked during an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday, saying he told her he wasn’t talking to her.
