Usha Vance’s spokeswoman issued an unusual statement denying speculation that the second first lady is divorcing her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance.
Rumors of a breakup between Usha and JD started flying after Usha didn’t wear her wedding ring during a visit to Camp Lejeune, a military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on November 19.
Wearing a burgundy turtleneck dress and matching heels, Usha appeared in public without a ring with First Lady Melania Trump.
But her spokesperson said Usha, who has sons Ewan, 8, and Vivek, 5, and daughter Mirabel, 3, with JD, simply forgot to wear her wedding ring.
“[Usha]is a mother of three young children who cooks a lot and bathes them many times, but sometimes she forgets her ring,” a spokesperson said in a statement to People magazine.
Usha, 39, and JD, 41, met at Yale Law School and tied the knot in 2014.
The latest rumors of a breakup were fueled by JD’s hug with Erika Kirke at last month’s Turning Point USA event, which went viral.
Kirk, the widow of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed in September, caused a stir on social media when she warmly embraced him on stage.
“No one can replace my husband, but I feel that J.D., Vice President J.D. Vance, has some similarities with my husband. I do,” she told the audience.
Erica, 37, previously praised Usha for her support at Charlie’s memorial service.
“She told me I could get through these 15 minutes and the next 15 minutes after that,” Erica said of the private conversation. “Usha, I don’t think I realized it at the time, but those were exactly the words I needed to hear.”
JD caused controversy in October when he said he hoped Usha, who was raised in a Hindu family, would eventually convert to Catholicism.
