Local drama “It’s OK” topped the Chinese box office during the weekend of April 10-12, earning RMB 31 million (approximately JPY 460 million) in its second weekend, according to data from Artisan Gateway.

The film, produced by China Film and directed by Yang Lina, has now grossed $18.7 million. The story follows Xu Ke, a young woman whose life is turned upside down by the sudden arrival of her mother in the face of a medical emergency, forcing the two to confront long-standing family tensions.

Universal’s “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” moved into second place, adding $3.3 million for a total of $14.7 million.

Columbia Pictures’ “Project Hail Mary” maintained a steady presence in third place, earning $3 million, bringing its total box office gross to $33.7 million.

Horror thriller “The Cagged Butterfly,” which debuted at No. 4, earned $2.4 million in its first weekend. Produced by Ultra Comedy, directed by Hao Han, and starring Li Meng, Liu Siwei, and Jiang Zhuojun. The story is set in the infamous Butterfly House villa. The story is about a physical therapist and a greedy schemer who move into a haunted mansion, only to find themselves haunted by strange happenings and a life-and-death game involving a woman in a red dress and a distorted, eyeless boy.

Rounding out the top five was the romantic drama “Now I Met Her,” which earned $1.8 million for a total of $8 million. Produced by Dirty Monkeys and directed by Xiao Lucy, the film stars Sandra Ma and Ke Bai and tells the story of an 18-year-old who discovers her late mother’s glorious past through her personal diary.

This frame represented a particularly slow period for the market, with a weekend box office gross of $21 million, the second-lowest gross to date.

Year-to-date sales in mainland China in 2026 were $1.84 billion, down 50.1% compared to the same period in 2025.
