Victoria Beckham is the newest member of the “Call Her Daddy” gang and will be appearing on Wednesday morning’s podcast.
Beckham, whose Netflix documentary on the former singer has just been released, sat down with host Alex Cooper to talk about her family, the Spice Girls, and, of course, her unique (and iconic) fashion era.
After the Spice Girls, Beckham quickly embraced the professional WAG era. During the interview, she talked about traveling with the team, including with the wives of other Manchester United football players.
“I had big breasts. I had really big breasts, so I wore tiny little hot pants and tiny little short skirts,” she recalls. “When I look at the photos, I smile and think it was such a fun trip,” she recalls.
But that wasn’t what it seemed on the surface, at least when it came to her style. “I think we were shopping on Bond Street and this wasn’t a real Louis Vuitton handbag. It was a fake,” she said of the bag she was carrying. “Then Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton’s creative director, saw this photo and contacted me and said he’d send me the real thing.”
“It’s not as fancy as you think, Alex. Not all the time,” Beckham laughs.
The multihyphenate has been open about his personal struggles throughout his career, saying, “I think that was another one of those things that…you know…it was me…that showed me that I was actually really insecure. And that’s how I stayed relevant. That’s how I stayed involved in the conversation.”
The move into the world of fashion seemed like a natural progression, she added. “I didn’t have the creative outlet that I have now, and that’s how I expressed myself when I was in the Spice Girls.”
Now at the helm of one of the most talked-about major British fashion houses of the past decade, it seems strange to think that she is the same strong, independent woman who once felt she needed to carry around a fake Louis Vuitton bag to stay in the headlines.
This businesswoman may not have always been ‘classy’, but she will forever be recognized for her great eye for modern fashion.
