Tim Allen decides to forgive the drunk driver who killed her father in 1964 after hearing Erica Kirk’s eulogy at the funeral of her murdered husband, Charlie Kirk.
“When Erica Kirk spoke about the man who killed her husband: ‘That guy… that young man… I’ll forgive him.’ That moment had a deep impact on me,” the actor, 72, posted Thursday.
“I’ve been struggling for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my father,” he said, “I’m going to forgive the man who killed my father now.”
Allen concluded his message.
Gerald M. Dick, the father of the “Home Improvement” star, died in a car accident in November 1964 after colliding with a drunk driver. Allen was 11 years old at the time.
Meanwhile, Charlie, a right-wing political activist, was fatally shot in the head while speaking on stage at Utah Valley University earlier this month. He was 31 years old and survived by his wife, two young children, a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.
While talking to 200,000 people attending his service ceremony, including Arizona President Trump, Vice President Vance and Elon Musk over the weekend, Erica declared that she had forgiven the man who shot Charlie.
“That young man – I’ll forgive him,” said the former beautiful pageant queen, 36, in tears as she spoke behind the podium decorated with the president’s mark. “The answer to hatred is not hatred.”
Erica told the crowd that Charlie “wanted to save a young man just like the one who took his life,” explaining that she chose to forgive, “it’s what Christ did, and what Charlie does.”
She also said in an interview with The New York Times that she did not seek the death penalty for Tyler Robinson, who was charged with Charlie’s fatal shooting.
“I don’t want that guy’s blood in the ledger,” she shared her stance. “When I arrived in heaven, Jesus said, ‘Um, do you see the eyes? Is that the way we do that?” And does it make me not in heaven and not with Charlie? ”
After his death, Turning Point USA – Charlie’s nonprofit advocate for conservative politics on high school and college campuses – appointed Erica as the new CEO and chairman of the board.
She vowed to continue Charlie’s work and mission.
