According to Artisan Gateway, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Castle” boosted box office revenue in China during the November 14-16 window, debuting at RMB 354.2 million ($49.9 million).

The Aniplex release is a film adaptation of the climactic final chapter of Koyoharu Gotoge’s blockbuster manga, directed by Haruo Tonosaki and produced by ufotable. The voice actor cast includes Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kito, Hiro Shimono, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. The film depicts the Demon Slayer Corps’ all-out attack on Muzan Kibutsuji’s stronghold in order to end the war between humans and demons.

It grossed $52.5 million in its first three days, with Imax accounting for $12.3 million.

Lionsgate’s “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” came in second with $21.6 million.

Local crime drama “Family at Large,” released by Hehe Pictures, came in third with $1.9 million. The film, directed by Kang Bo, stars Hu Ge as an estranged father nicknamed Reindeer who becomes embroiled in brutal human trafficking on China’s northeastern border, escorting a young pregnant woman and a previously kidnapped boy. The cast also includes Wen Qi, Yang Ni, Song Jia, Gao Ye, and Ou Hao.

“Predator: Badlands” came in fourth with $1.8 million, raising its total to $12.6 million.

Shanghai Film Group’s “Shanghai Wonton” ranked in the top five with a weekend box office gross of $900,000 and a cumulative total of $1.7 million. The film, directed by Wu Tiange, depicts Wonton, a retired engineer, making wontons every Saturday while worrying about his unmarried son. In search of a partner, he heads to a date corner in a city park and meets a group of parents in a similar situation. The ensemble cast includes Chou Yeman, Pan Hong, Mao Xiangyu, Wang Lin, Chen Guoqing, and Shu Xiang.

The weekend box office soared to $79.7 million, compared to some dismal box office returns of $21 million, bringing China’s 2025 box office revenue to $6.41 billion, up 16% year-on-year.
