JAFF Market 2025 has announced the second edition lineup of the JAFF Future Project, featuring 10 fiction and documentary titles across the Asia-Pacific region. This selection presents a roster of established and emerging filmmakers whose work reflects the region’s evolving stories and the potential for cross-border collaboration.
Scheduled to run from November 29th to December. The initiative, which will be held on January 1 at the Yogya Expo Center in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is part of the wider 20th anniversary celebrations of the Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF). The Future project is designed to serve as both a development platform and a co-creation hub, advancing independent works towards completion and distribution.
Among the notable names in this year’s lineup is acclaimed Korean director Park Ki-young, who returns to filmmaking with Ghost Island, produced by Heo Yu-han. Ho’s own project, “The Silent Village,” won two awards at last year’s Future Project. Indonesian filmmaker Eddie Kayono followed up his award-winning feature film “City,” which was screened at Telluride, with “My Mother.” Australian director Aaron Wilson, whose films “Canopy” and “Little Tornado” were successful at international film festivals, will present “Under the Banyan Moon.”
The selection process was conducted through an open call from August 1st to September. 1. We will collect applications from all over the region. A selection committee comprised of filmmaker and comedian Ernest Prakasa and producers Fauzan Jidoni and Tia Hasibuan evaluated projects based on strength of storytelling, creative vision, feasibility and market readiness.
JAFF Future Project has renewed its partnership with the Adelaide Film Festival and Mylab for the second consecutive year, expanding avenues of creative exchange between Asia and Australia.
“Now in its second year, this partnership continues to pave the way for Asian and Australian filmmakers to engage in meaningful exchanges that sustain the region’s independent film ecosystem,” said Adelaide Film Festival CEO and Creative Director Matt Kesting.
Lorna Tee, JAFF Market Advisor and Mylab Curator, added: “Together with JAFF Market’s commitment to supporting early-stage projects, we are helping to build a more connected creative landscape across the Asia-Pacific region.”
Throughout the three-day market, participating filmmakers will present their work in selected pitch sessions and one-on-one meetings with producers, investors, and industry partners.
Selected participants will compete for a total of over $74,000 in prize money and production support. Prizes include the Visinema Awards ($3,000 for two projects) and The United Team of Arts Awards ($6,000 for one project). The production and post-production package includes the Brandlink Awards ($30,000 worth of equipment for the two projects), Kongchak Awards ($10,000 worth of sound design equipment), White Light Awards ($15,000 worth of color grading and mastering), and Prodigihouse Ecosystem Awards ($10,000 worth of editing and color grading).
“Our selection process goes beyond just selecting stories,” said Linda Gozali, market director of JAFF Market. “It’s about identifying creators who can inspire new partnerships and drive projects towards realization. Through the JAFF Future Project, we see this as a long-term investment in creative infrastructure that connects filmmakers to international networks, development labs and co-production partners, ensuring that promising ideas evolve into impactful works rather than remaining on paper.”
The impact of this work is already being seen in the success of our alumni. Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian’s directorial debut Pangku (On the Knees), which won the White Light Post-Production Award, was born out of last year’s Future Project. The film was selected as HAF Goes to Cannes by the Marché du Film and won four major awards at the 2025 Busan International Film Festival.
JAFF Market 2025 is operated by Amar Bank. The Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival will be held from November 29th to December. 6.
