Horror Streamer Shudder has won two Indonesian genre titles from EST N8, securing “Pabrik Gula” and “Pelé Wangan” for distribution in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
With the acquisition, director Awi Suryadi will return to international audiences following his previous hit, “Kkn di Desa Penari.”
Drawing from Indonesian folklore, “Pabrik Gula” emerged as the biggest local horror success in 2025, attracting over 4.7 million local movie fans. MD Pictures production combines horror elements from the Dutch colonial era with modern horror set around sugar plantations. “Peléwangan” on the other hand delves into Javanese spiritual beliefs about entities that confer material benefits.
“Trembling is a proud showcase of modern Indonesian horror and we are extremely excited to grow that offering with two cleverly horrifying and enjoyable films by the great director Awi Suryadi in ‘Peléwangan’ and ‘Public Gras’.”
The title has already been successful in multiple markets. Following the EST N8’s marching theatre rollout in North America, “Public Grah” set a new Indonesian horror benchmark during Vietnam’s release in July. International sales are expanding in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, including Taiwan, Japan, Latin America and Southeast Asia markets.
Tenten Wei, Sophie Shi, Cathy Ni and Aaron Chang of EST N8 negotiated the agreement, which was announced ahead of the Asian content and film market of the Busan International Film Festival.
Jaeson MA, CEO of EST N8, said: “These two films represent the finest cultural horrors of Southeast Asia, and by trembling, we strengthen our reputation for premium Asian content. We look forward to more opportunities for collaboration with global platforms like trembling.”
Co-founder Kris Eiamsakulrat added: “I am extremely honored to have “Public Gras” and “Pelé Wangan” in trembling. This is a thrilling milestone where EST N8 is featured on a platform dedicated to horror.
