According to a new research from Ormax Media, India’s streaming audience reaches 610 million users, accounting for more than 40% of the country’s population.
The fifth edition of the ORMAX OTT Audience Report reveals the mature market, where growth has declined to 10% year-on-year from the 13-14% expansion rate seen in 2023 and 2024.

The study defines streaming audiences as those who have watched at least one online video (free or paid) in the past month. Active paid subscriptions, including those bundled with telecom services and streaming aggregators, totaling 148.2 million accounts.
Connected TV surges have now been converted to an estimated 350-400,000 households equipped with smart TVs and streaming devices, indicating a significant change in viewing habits that can reconstruct content strategies for competing platforms in the world’s most populous countries.
Legal dramas like Jiohotstar’s “Criminal Justice: Family Issues” top Ormax’s recent streaming chart with 27.7 million viewers, demonstrating the appetite of premium content that benefits from big screen presentations.
“In response to feedback from industry leaders, we expanded the 2025 edition to include new sections spent on digital content, preferred languages, content formats and media habits,” said Keerat Grewal, head of business development for streaming, television and brands at Ormax Media.
The Mumbai-based media consulting firm launched its annual report in 2021, providing reliable third-party data to the Indian streaming industry through key research. Each edition grows in scope and depth, providing insights for platforms, advertisers, content creators and investors.
The comprehensive study categorizes the universe of 601.2 million users by demographics including gender, age, economic status, geography and urban strata.
