DocuBay has launched a new original documentary exploring India’s erotica sector, which faces increasing regulatory challenges and content restrictions on streaming platforms.
Helmed by director Heena D’Souza and produced by Humara Movies, ‘Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica’ includes interviews with prominent industry figures such as Shakespeare Tripathy, Maya Jaafar and Rajish Verma. The film explores the challenges faced by performers and content creators in an industry that deals with issues of social judgment and censorship.
“At IN10 Media Network, we have always had the idea of creating thought-provoking storytelling around topics that people often talk about in whispers and in secret, but rarely say out loud,” said Aditya Pittie, Managing Director of IN10 Media Network, DocuBay’s parent company. “The appeal of the entertainment industry is often talked about, but there are large and complex aspects to it that are not yet understood.”
Samar Khan, chief operating officer at Docubay, added: “This film not only explores the world of erotica, but delves deep into the economics behind it and how content, commerce and censorship intersect. It’s an unfiltered look at an ecosystem that thrives despite its marginalization.”
The project represents a collaboration between DocuBay’s global streaming platform and HumaraMovie, one of India’s largest independent production companies. Abhishek Gautam, associate producer at HumaraMovie, pointed out that the documentary provides a platform to artists who have rarely shared their perspectives publicly.
“Their experiences add authenticity and depth, and capturing these real-life perspectives for the documentary was invaluable,” Gautam said. “Working with DocuBay has helped us realize this vision with the platform’s strong global presence.”
Coach D’Souza said her goal is to go beyond judgment. “My goal was to humanize this space and showcase the people who make this industry what it is,” she said. “It has been an eye-opening journey to bring their voices to the forefront and piece together the layers of this hidden ecosystem.”
Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica is available to stream exclusively on DocuBay and available in over 170 countries on multiple platforms including Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Samsung TV.
HumaraMovie’s work includes the Disney+ Hotstar series ‘Mukesh Jasoos’, the Netflix feature ‘Jaaon Kahaan Bata Ae Dil’ and the Marathi film ‘Folwer’ which premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
