I think the Italian distribution company has acquired the right to “broken English” with photos bound by Venice. This is a portrait of the late Marianne Faithful, directed by BAFTA candidates Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (20,000 Days on Earth).
“Broken English” will premiere the world in the competition section at the Venice Film Festival on August 30th. Global Constellation of Sales and Financial Costumes incorporates North American rights.
Filmed in the last year of Faithful’s life and featuring the last recorded performance, “Broken English,” reflects art, survival and heritage, capturing singer-songwriters, poets and actors in rare, defenseless moments.
With a cast led by Tilda Swinton and George Mackay, the film follows the pair as it takes on the role of investigators within the framework of forgetting “a secret poetic structure that promises to save cultural memory from forgetting.” Faithfull will be the first “theme” rendered through interviews, archive footage and soundscape tapestry.
The faithful, the lightning bolt for fame, scandal, and reinvention, was more than just a muse. She was the face of a generation and the voice that passed through it. Defamed by the press, which was underrated by the industry, she endured a broken heart and addiction, but never lost her advantage.
Photographed Andrea Romeo said, “Ian and Jane have created a truly unique film journey, which is closer than ever to understand who Marianne Faithful is.
In addition to Faithfull’s final performance, “Broken English” presents contributions from friends and longtime collaborators such as Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Courtney Love, Skiwaterhouse, Beth Orton, and Jenny Beth.
Additional cast includes Zawe Ashton, Calvin Demba and Sophia Di Martino.
“Broken English” is produced by Beth Earl, a photograph of the rustic Canyon. The film’s executive producers include Thomas Bensky, Marisa Clifford, Isabel Davis, Tim O’Shea from Magna Studios, Malcrovinson from Grove Original, Julia XU from Q&A Entertainment and Victoria Stephenton.
The cold iron photo is co-executively produced by Miranda Bailey and Julia Stier. Oliver Hsu, Jennifer Lin, Cristina Ljungberg, Tien-Tsung MA, Stuart Souter and Alvin Wang are co-producers. Liam Coutts and Laura Rees are co-produced. Kate Griffiths, Mike Griffiths and Tess McNally Watson are the archive producers of the project.
