Beijing-based sales company Hugo East has revealed the lineup for Hong Kong Filmart.
Chief among them is the feature film “Shanghai Wonton” produced by Shanghai Artown Film and directed by Wu Tiange.
The film follows Lao Wang, a retired engineer who lives a quiet life in Shanghai and shares his weekly habits with his son who goes home every Saturday to eat homemade wontons. Wanting to help her son settle down, Lao Wang visits the city’s famous marriage market. There, an unexpected encounter leads him on an emotional journey of his own.
The film won the Shanghai Film Award at this year’s Shanghai Film Critics Awards and has grossed more than 30 million yuan ($4.35 million) at the Chinese box office since its release in December 2025.
Also in the lineup is the documentary feature “Slow Road to Hainan,” directed by Fu Jing and He Lei.
Set along the slow coastal roads of Hainan Island, the film captures a fishing village in transition, as environmental awareness and lifestyle changes permanently reshape the villagers’ identity.
Producers say Slow Road to Hainan offers a poetic portrait of a community navigating the delicate balance between tradition, nature and a sustainable way of life.
This title is new to the market, currently in production, and scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2026.
Founded in 2016, Hugoeast has carved out a niche as a purveyor of arthouse films and documentaries by Chinese directors, with a focus on women-themed films. The company also distributed over 200 foreign language arthouse films within mainland China.
