The Oscar-winning “Roma” producer Pimienta film has joined Michel Garza Cervera’s chilled drama “Huesera” and the latest in Mexican Marigno Gorehouse, the latest film, “Lux Noctis,” best known for being most produced in Blumhouse’s first Mexican horror film, “No Me Sigas.”
“Lux Noctis” is also by female director Damiana Acuña.
“It’s something I’m extremely excited about being part of “Lux Noctis” by Damiana. I have followed her work and growth over the years. And when I heard her pitch at Ventana Sur, we talked a bit about her vision of this debut feature.
“I was impressed by her sensitivity, the depth she approached the story, and I was impressed by the boldness of the project – that I was stupid to jump on this journey and accompany her,” he added.
“Lux Noctis” takes place in a remote patriarchal community where women survive the threatening darkness thanks to their light-making power. A young woman facing a tough coming-of-age ritual, Lina forms a forbidden connection with men. Her choices challenge the rules of her world and spark a rebellion that opens up a path to a new way of life.
“The experience in an auer-led film that achieved the international reach of Nico and Pimienta is something that we are all very excited about and we are sure it will help us take more of ‘Lux Noctis’,” Aknya said.
“We believe that ‘Lux Noctis’ is a genre-based project, but Damiana’s vision could take it to a very strong level,” said Eduardo Recuona, co-founding partner alongside Javier Sepulveda of Maligno Gorehaus.
“Pimienta Films has been invited as co-producer to enhance the project and promote this fantasy horror genre project to the level of Auteur Cinema. Pimienta has been promoted to the level of expert Auteur Cinema.”
Marigno Gorehaus describes himself as “Dr. Frankenstein, obsessed with his lab, has awakened a new generation of horror filmmakers.”
The Mexico City-based company is on its mission to work with a young director who promises to give audiences a “new vision of horror.”
“Lux Noctis” began gaining traction in 2023 when he joined the Cine Qua Non Lab and Linterna Lab. It was a semi-finalist of the NYX Fellowship (Stowe Story Labs, USA) and won multiple development awards for the Blood Window in the Ventana Sur genre. He also won the Sitges Film Festival’s Woman In Fan Award and the Fantastic Pavilion Award at Marthe Du Film. In the BIFF market, he received the Hatching Award for presentations on the Iberseries & Platino Industry.
He later won the Cinecoller Award at the Los Cabos International Film Festival. In 2025, it was one of five projects chosen by breaking the lens of Cannes.
