Howard Stern denounced the “silly” ABC for pausing Jimmy Kimmel over the remarks of late-night talk show host Charlie Kirk.
“You know, ABC threw Jimmy into the air. I don’t know what their plans are, but it looks like they’ve been fired (he).”
“Then I read from time to time that they weren’t going to fire him. I don’t know.”
Stern, 71, says he spoke to Kimmel, 57, and asks him what he “does personally.”
“When the government will start to interfere, when the government says, ‘I’m not happy with you, so we’re going to adjust the way we keep you silent,'” he shared.
“And I should know – I’ve been involved in this kind of thing, and now ABCs are in the same position and it’s a shame that ABCs even need to be in this position. They shouldn’t have to be in this position.
But Stern said someone needs to “step up” instead of “bow” to every government order.
“It may sound stupid now, but what I did this morning is cancelling Disney+,” he said.
“The Pocket Book says they don’t support what they’re doing with Jimmy.”
Stern said we are now living in a horrific time when the government began to threaten you, but that’s not true.
“And I don’t think ABC needs to be in this position. That’s ridiculous. But I know that most broadcasters agree with me,” the media personality added.
“I don’t care what they’re broadcasting, whether they’re these right-wing types or left-wing types, or you’re the type who can’t dictate the government of this country (speech).”
Last week, a spokesman told Page 6 that Kimmel’s late-night talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” was pulled out of the air “indefinitely” after he spoke about Kirk’s death.
Right-wing political activist Kirk was shot dead on September 10th while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old.
On September 15, Kimmel briefly spoke about the murder, claiming that President Donald Trump’s “Maga Gang” used the killing as a move to score political points.
Sinclair, a media company run as the largest ABC affiliate group, has kept the talk show in the air by requesting Kimmel issue an on-air apology to Kirk’s family and donating to Turning Point USA, the late podcaster’s nonprofit.
However, the former reportedly refused, “Who wants to be a billionaire?”
Trump, 79, went to a social media platform to celebrate the news of Kimmel’s suspension.
“Great news for America: The rated Jimmy Kimmelshaw has been cancelled,” the president wrote last Wednesday about the true social.
“We congratulate ABC for having the courage to do what they ultimately had to do,” he added. “Kimmel has zero talent and if that’s possible, he has a worse rating than Colbert. That leaves two total losers on fake news NBC, Jimmy and Seth. Their ratings are also scary.
Sources told Page 6 before Kirk’s comment that Kimmel’s future on ABC is already in the air as the comedian only had a few months left in his deal with Disney.
