Hollywood’s biggest night is over, and a new Best Picture winner has been officially announced: Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.”
Anderson, who has been nominated 14 times during his career, won his first two Academy Awards tonight for his directorial and screenplay adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland.”
“One Battle” follows former revolutionary Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he lives off-grid with his teenage daughter Willa (Chase Infinity). When Willa goes missing, Bob is forced to return to his old life when a corrupt military officer (Sean Penn) from his past suddenly appears.
In addition to the night’s biggest awards, “One Battle After Another” won Best Director (Anderson), Best Supporting Actor (Penn), Best Adapted Screenplay (Anderson), Best Film Editing, and its first Best Casting award.
