In episode 4 of Taylor Swift’s documentary series ‘The End of an Era,’ Taylor Swift’s mother Andrea opened up about her marriage to Travis Kelsey. She recalled seeing a headline about Kelsey bringing a friendship bracelet with her number on it to a Swift concert in hopes of meeting Taylor Swift in July 2023. Andrea thought the gesture was “nice” and encouraged her daughter to meet the NFL after getting information from her cousin, who is a Chiefs fan. Star.
Taylor Swift’s mother, Andrea, has always been one of her biggest supporters and sometimes a not-so-subtle matchmaker, as viewers saw on End of an Era.
In episode 4 of Swift’s Disney+ docuseries, which was released on December 19, the Kansas City Chiefs player confessed on his New Heights podcast that Andrea steered her daughter to Travis Kelce after she admitted on her show that she tried and failed to give Swift a friendship bracelet with her phone number on it.
Andrea recalled the story while Swift was relaxing backstage at the Elas Tour. She remembers stumbling across a headline online about Kelsey’s interest and, intrigued, reaching out to her cousin Robin. She called Robin “the resident expert on the Kansas City Chiefs.”
“She said, ‘Oh my God, he’s the nicest guy. And you know what? He really loves his mom (Donna Kelce),'” Andrea said. Andrea confirmed that the details were sealed. “I said, ‘Ding, ding, ding, ding.’ Now, how on earth can I get her to meet him?”
Swift admitted that her romantic past didn’t include many professional athletes. “I’ve never been much of an athlete, because I’m not an athlete. I was always like, ‘Okay, what shall we talk about?'” the pop star said. “So you called me up like, ‘Hey, so I know you’re not going to respond well to this, but here’s the guy… You said something to the effect of, ‘We’ve got to start doing something different.’
Andrea summed up her enthusiasm succinctly by adding that Kelce is “really cute.” she continued. “Listen, I was very serious. I thought it was the nicest thing in the world for him to come to your show. He brought something from your world to you. It really meant a lot to me. So I thought it was really nice, and I loved it.”
Swift later reflected on his first date with Kelsey, saying that he “had to explain football like it was violent chess. That helped me understand it. It’s like fast, angry chess.” She added: “And I fell in love with him, and as a result, I fell in love with learning about football, which was the biggest surprise of my life.”
Swift and Kelsea began dating around September 2023 and got engaged in August of this year, shortly after Swift appeared on New Heights. During the episode, the “Opalite” singer shared her thoughts on Kelce taking the shot on her podcast two years ago.
“It was tough, but it worked out. I’m glad it worked out,” she said, then gestured to Kelsey and added, “I just came back to New Heights to thank you for this.” She also revealed what she likes about the NFL star, including “the fact that he makes me laugh so easily.” She added, “Travis just lifts the mood in everyone’s life around him. He’s the exclamation point of humanity.” She said to him, “You were very open-minded towards people, and you were very open-minded towards me, who didn’t know anything about soccer…You were very kind.”
