Shudder has secured North American rights to the psychological horror thriller “Hellcat,” which marks Brock Bodel’s feature directorial debut and was released by Blue Finch Films at the European Film Market in Berlin.
The streamer plans to release the film later this year after its premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival received positive reviews. Bodel previously gained attention on the festival circuit with the short film ‘Grief’.
UK-based sales and distribution company Blue Finch Films has also signed deals with Meteor Films in Germany and Falcon Films in the MENA region. Blue Finch will be responsible for the release in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
This tense thriller centers on Lena, a severely injured woman who regains consciousness inside a moving camper trailer. The driver warned her that she had only an hour to get medical help before she faced dire consequences. As her condition worsens and her perception of reality becomes unreliable, questions about who poses the real threat grow deeper.
Starring Dakota Gorman, known for her roles in “Natural Disasters.” The ensemble includes voice roles by Todd Terry (“Breaking Bad”), Liz Atwater (“The Other People”), Jordan Mullins (“Byriders”) and “Saturday Night Live” cast member James Austin Johnson.
Bodell wrote and directed the project and served as producer along with Andrew Duensing (The Dead Center) and Nate Eggert (I Can Feel You Walking). Maris Bodell (Grief), Noah Lang (Blood for Dust) and Matt Phelps are executive producers. Zack Engel (“Ultrasound”) composed the score.
Blue Finch Films’ current international slate includes the holiday-themed horror “Unholy Night,” Rotterdam Film Festival selection “Bowels of Hell,” SXSW title “Imposters,” and IFC’s upcoming theatrical release “Dolly” in March.
Shudder continues to expand its horror offerings, releasing approximately 30 films each year. Recent works include In a Violent Nature by Chris Nash, Late Night With the Devil by Colin and Cameron Cairns, Oddity by Damian McCarthy and The Ugly Stepsister by Emily Brickfeldt. The platform is available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
