“Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan has been sentenced to 19 months in an Oregon state prison for violating his domestic violence probation.
Brian, 44, who is currently serving a 16-month sentence in a California prison for a 2024 DUI arrest, appeared virtually in court for sentencing on Friday, local Oregon outlet KEZI News reported.
“The sentencing was excessive. It was ridiculous. Zachary (sic) has been through a lot of trauma. He has an alcohol problem. Putting him in jail or jail isn’t going to make things better,” Zachary’s attorney John Corrego told TMZ about the sentencing.
“Poor use of resources. Very disappointed in the judge. Zachary (sic) attended the hearing remotely. He apologized to the court, stated that he wanted to be the best father he could be, acknowledged that he needed help with his alcohol problem, and the judge slapped him in the face with this sentence,” the attorney’s message continued.
Brian’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The sentence follows Brian and his girlfriend, Johnny Faye Cartwright, both being taken into custody in November 2025 after Brian violated the terms of his domestic violence probation.
Brian has been twice convicted of domestic violence against an anonymous woman in Oregon, in 2020 and 2023.
In the latter case, he was given a three-year suspended sentence, barring him from contacting the victim, leaving the area without permission, drinking alcohol, or committing any new crimes until his sentence is scheduled to end in 2026.
He ultimately pleaded guilty to a probation violation.
But Brian’s legal troubles don’t end there.
The actor also faces additional prison time for a DUI arrest in Oklahoma.
Authorities plan to extradite him to Oklahoma at some point after his release from California custody.
