Holiday movie queen Melissa Joan Hart isn’t just trimming the tree this season, she’s also trimming the card list.
The festive movie favorite, who currently stars opposite Alicia Silverstone in Netflix’s Merry Little Exmas, said at the Ancestry event at Maxwell Social that she usually sends out handwritten holiday cheer.
“I’m going to make 400 Christmas cards,” Hart said at the event. “When I call out to someone with my hands, it’s because I remember that person. It’s almost like a little prayer.”
But this year, Hart says she’s putting the brakes on the Christmas USPS Marathon.
“I’m trying to simplify and take a step back…The list is getting long. I ask everyone I meet for their address.”
For those wondering who makes the great lists. “I’m sure you’re getting emails saying I talk to you often,” she told us.
Still, some lucky people receive old-fashioned cards.
“Some of my friends’ parents and older people still value real cards,” she said.
These days, she says, she’s focused on the true spirit of the season.
“I’m really trying to take away the stress and confusion and focus on what the holidays are about. I think it’s about family.”
Hart attended a holiday party with his father. The pair were seen looking at family images and newspaper clippings pulled by one of the site’s expert genealogists.
Hart has appeared in numerous holiday films, including “Reserved for Christmas,” “Santa Con,” and “A Very Nutty Christmas.”
She said a sequel to 2007’s “Handcuffs Holiday,” a fan favorite in which she co-starred Mario Lopez, may be in the works.
“Mario messaged me…and I was like, ‘We should work together again,'” she said, adding that he gave her the perfect title for the sequel. “I was like, ‘Actually, I love that.’ And he’s like, ‘I was joking at first, but actually, I love that too.'”
Lopez and Hart have co-starred in several films, including 2017’s A Very Merry Toy Store and 2020’s Feliz NaviDAD, which Hart directed.
