What you need to know
Harry Styles is back with his first new single in almost three years.
On Thursday, January 22, the pop star released the atmospheric dance love song “Aperture,” the lead single from her upcoming fourth album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, sometimes.
“It’s best to know, what you shouldn’t know, the aperture lets in the light,” Styles, 31, sings in the song. I’m referring to the aperture of the camera. Aperture controls how much of the image is visible to the photographer and affects the brightness and depth of field of the image.
Over a bouncy electro beat produced by Kid Harpoon, who also co-produced Styles’ 2022 hit “As It Was,” Styles sings, “We belong together, finally it seems like it’s all love.”
“I won’t stray from it, I don’t know these spaces, time won’t wait for me, I want to know what safety is,” Styles sings at a faster pace on the bridge, building a sense of finding freedom and healing through dance. The beat is subdued compared to the flashy synth-pop of his 2022 album Harry’s House, and lyrically the song marks a new direction.
To celebrate the release, Styles shared a photo on Instagram Thursday of himself sipping on Big Gulp with patches under his eyes. “Aperture. Out Now. Video. 17:00 UK,” Styles simply wrote in the caption.
On Tuesday, January 20, Styles announced the upcoming release of “Aperture” on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself grinning in a proud pose with his arms outstretched in the studio.
“Aperture” is the One Direction alum’s first single since 2023’s “Satellite.”
In the early morning hours of January 22nd, Styles announced a seven-city residency promoted by Live Nation called Together, Together. The tour will include 50 stops from May to December in Amsterdam, London, São Paulo, Mexico City, New York, Melbourne and Sydney.
